Tech That Makes You Feel Calm & Productive
Analog Weekly No. 7: Daylight Computer Co. x Analog Social
Ever felt your pulse quicken at the slightest ping? Imagine technology so gentle it fades into the background—enhancing your life without hijacking your attention.
🔦 This Week in Analog Wellness: Calm Technology
Calm Tech isn’t just about silencing notifications; it’s about designing devices that respect your nervous system and “inform and create calm” rather than disrupt it. Born from the Calm Tech Institute’s mission—“Smarter Humans, Not Devices”—Calm Technology ensures tech enhances human life without causing stress or distraction.
According to the calmtech.institute, at its core are eight guiding principles:
“Require the smallest possible amount of attention
Inform and create calm
Make use of the periphery
Amplify the best of technology and the best of humanity
Communicate, but not always with voice
Work even when it fails
Use the minimum tech needed to solve the problem
Respect social norms”
By leveraging flicker-free backlights, low-blue-light emitters, and interfaces that only update when necessary, Calm Technology breaks the cycle of screen-induced stress, letting your brain rest even as you stay connected.
☀️💻Daylight Computer Co.
In 2024, I came across a podcast interview with Anjan Katta, the founder of Daylight Computer, where he talked about his struggle with ADHD and his desire to build computers that protected our brains, not hijacked them.
The mission of Daylight Computer is simple: create a healthier, more human friendly computer that is not exhausting, addictive, or distracting. It’s calmmmmmm.
And that’s why I’m proud to be partnering with Daylight Computer Co. for their Outdoor Computing Club Summer Series. After the success of our Analog Walk &Talk, I knew partnering with Daylight was the right fit!

💡 Analog Moment of the Week: Create Your Analog Corner
Find a little nook—whether in your home, on your favorite park bench, or at a café—where you leave all tech behind. No screens, no notifications, no distractions: just a dedicated space you train your body to relax in each time you visit. It doesn’t need to be elaborate—perhaps a cushion, a plant, or simply the shade of a tree—just make it your personal refuge for deep human reflection.sh.

As a neurodivergent (dyspraxic) person I like the idea of calmtech. I'll be following the work of this organization and of daylight computer company. I think that developing technologies informed by neurodivergence is essential to creating a neuroinclusive society that is ultimately healthier for everyone.
Very interesting. Very enlightening. Thank you, Shae!
